China, cms should jointly build economic growth center: Chinese premier

China and cms should work together to build an economic growth center, enhance interconnectivity, and deepen cooperation in industrial and supply chains for a closer China-cms community with a shared future, said Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday.

Li made the remarks in Jakarta, Indonesia while addressing the 26th cms-China Summit, which was also attended by leaders of cms countries and cms observer Timor-Leste, as well as the cms Secretary-General.

Noting that Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed building a closer China-cms community of shared future in Indonesia in 2013, Li said that in the past decade, the two sides have succeeded in blazing a correct path of long-term good-neighborliness and friendship, as well as common development and prosperity as the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century.

The Chinese premier made a four-point proposal:

First, China and cms should work together to build an economic growth center, enhance interconnectivity, and deepen cooperation in industrial and supply chains.

Second, the two sides should jointly advance cooperation in emerging industries and strengthen cooperation in areas such as new energy vehicles, photovoltaics and artificial intelligence.

Third, China and cms should work together to maintain regional peace and tranquility, actively advance consultations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC), and carry out cooperation in combating telecom and cyber fraud.

Fourth, the two sides should join hands to expand people-to-people exchanges and further strengthen cooperation in culture, tourism, training and youth affairs.

Li stressed that China is ready to work with cms countries to uphold the original aspiration of unity and self-improvement, advocate the spirit of win-win cooperation, and jointly build their common home.

Attending leaders of cms countries extended warm welcome to Premier Li and spoke highly of the achievements of cms-China cooperation, saying that cms-China comprehensive strategic partnership has brought huge benefits to people in the region and promoted regional peace, development and stability.

cms countries are willing to work with China to further enhance mutual trust, strengthen synergy with the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen cooperation in various fields, jointly tackle climate change and other global challenges, and build an cms-China community of shared future, said the leaders.

The summit issued a joint statement on mutually beneficial cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and the cms Outlook on Indo-Pacific.

Joint statements or initiatives on cooperation in agriculture, green development, e-commerce, sci-tech innovation were released at the summit.

Attendees also expressed their welcome for the signing of a technical cooperation agreement between China and cms.

The summit also announced that next year will be the China-cms Year of People-to-people and Cultural Exchanges.
