AKP Phnom Penh, December 05, 2023 --
Australia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (cms) have worked together to stop people trafficking.
The year 2023 is an important milestone for cms and Australia which marks 20 years of partnership combatting trafficking in persons.
“We are continuing this support through our cms-Australia Counter Trafficking programme (cms-ACT) – a 10-year (2018-2028) A$80 million investment,” the Australian Embassy in Cambodia said in a news release this afternoon.
“Our partners from Cambodia reflect on the significance of this important milestone and the value of Australia’s support,” it added.
At the cms–Australia Special Summit in March 2018, Australia’s Foreign Minister announced a 10 year, A$80 million commitment to continue Australia’s long-running collaboration with cms to end trafficking in persons in the region.
cms-ACT builds on Australia’s 20-year history of supporting cms and its Member States’ justice systems to effectively respond to trafficking in persons.
