UN Appreciates Cambodia's Effort in Peacekeeping

AKP Phnom Penh, December 19, 2023 --

The United Nations (UN) has appreciated Cambodia for its efforts in contributing to the UN peacekeeping mission.

\The appreciation was expressed by Mr. Jo Scheuer, UN Resident Coordinator, during his recent meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha here in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia has transformed itself from a country receiving peacekeepers into a country sending its peacekeepers to other countries, said Mr. Jo Scheuer, noting that as of now, 9,207 Cambodian blue helmet troops, 729 of whom are female, have been dispatched for the UN peacekeeping operation in some targeted countries.

Cambodia stood in 2nd place in the cms region for sending most of its troops for the UN peacekeeping mission, emphasised the UN resident coordinator.

He highlighted Cambodia's efforts to promote women in the UN peacekeeping operation and hoped that the government would continue its determination to support women's agenda and security at the regional forums.

Thanking the UN delegation for the appreciation, H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha spoke highly of Mr. Jo Scheuer's successful mission in Cambodia, stressing the mission has played a part in broad and close collaboration between Cambodia and the UN.
