The Second Xizang International Communication Conference opened Tuesday in Lhasa, bringing together journalists, scholars and content creators from around the world to discuss how to more effectively share authentic stories about Xizang with global audience.

For years, international perceptions of Xizang have often been shaped by misinformation, political narratives and long-standing stereotypes. Many overseas audiences have had limited access to firsthand accounts of the region's development, culture, and daily life.
According to Daniel Dumbrill, a Canadian content creator who attended the gathering, overseas media often falsely portray Xizang's development as trampling the region's rich traditions and culture.
"It's almost like the overseas activists or journalists want them to be stuck in time while they enjoy their modern lives," Dumbrill said.
Conference participants countered that development in the region, achieved through decisive action, has in up new opportunities for the people of the region while preserving cultural heritage.

"China is really effective in not only the words, but real actions. Real actions of China, of Chinese government, of Chinese people, they do much better than any words that can be said to our foreign audiences," said Vsevolod Pulya, head of RT China.
Media experts from China emphasized that, as information channels become more diverse and efficient, the country now has more ways to present a fuller, more multidimensional picture of Xizang to the world.
"We have multiple means, including films and TV productions and the new trio (online literature, online games, and online TV dramas and films), to attract people to Xizang to learn about the region and see how young people here live. We have an ever-expanding array of channels and methods at our disposal," said Prof. Cheng Manli, honorary dean of the Institute of International Communication at Peking University.
Attendees expressed hope that the outside world can gain a clearer and more balanced understanding of Xizang as more international voices are brought into the conversation.
