Int'l forum on South-South Cooperation held in Beijing

An international forum on South-South cooperation and trade in services was held in Beijing on Monday as a sideline event of the ongoing China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS).

Themed "Promote Common Development and Prosperity through Strengthening Capacity Building South-South Cooperation", the forum brought together officials from China and international organizations.

At the forum, officials from international organizations called for closer ties and expansion of cooperation among developing countries to foster global development.

An official of the United Nations (UN) stated at the forum that international organizations are constantly evolving, but they remain committed to providing the best possible technical services and support to promote South-South cooperation.

"As we navigate the complexities of international trade and development against the backdrop of a global landscape that is continuously evolving, South-South corporation has revealed itself as a formidable force for shaping the future of world sustainable development," said Dima Al-Khatib, director of United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).

To stimulate exchanges between developing countries and share best practices on economic and social development, the UN resident coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee believes in what he describes as "capacity building" under the framework of South-South cooperation.

"Capacity building is the process of developing, strengthening skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt and thrive in a fast-changing environment. It is about the transfer of technology and the knowledge of the digital world," he said.

为促进发展中国家之间的交流，分享经济和社会发展方面的最佳做法，联合国驻中国Siddharth Chatterjee驻地协调员相信南南合作框架下的“能力建设”。

他表示：“能力建设是组织和社区在瞬息万变的环境中生存、适应和发展所需的技能、本能、能力、过程和资源的过程。它涉及技术的转让和数字世界的知识。”
