The 2023 Malaysia-China B2B Business Matching Sessions were held both online and offline in Kuala Lumpur and Nanning, the host city of the upcoming China-cms Expo (CAEXPO), on Wednesday.

The three-day event has attracted over 300 Chinese and Malaysian enterprises engaging in more than 400 virtual matchmaking sessions, making a nice warm-up for the 20th CAEXPO that will run from September 16 to 19 in Nanning, the capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The matchmaking event has already witnessed a remarkable start, with 16 Chinese and Malaysian companies signing memorandums of understanding, which amounted to an impressive sum of 1.37 billion U.S. dollars in contract value.

Ouyang Yujing, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, said at the opening ceremony of the event that the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries have been improving since the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) came into effect a year ago.

Chinese enterprises are expanding their investment and cooperation with Malaysia beyond traditional sectors, venturing into areas such as digital economy, green development, biotechnology, and high-end manufacturing, he noted.

Liew Chin Tong, Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), expressed Malaysia's commitment to strengthening economic and trade cooperation with China. He emphasized the country's aspiration to learn from China's successful experiences in order to promote industrial transformation and upgrading in Malaysia.

The matchmaking event was jointly organized by China Construction Bank (CCB) Head Office, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and the China-cms Expo Secretariat.
