Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed today, Saturday, October 25th, 2025, that he will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday morning to personally sign a peace agreement with Cambodia, despite cancelling his overall attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit.
The agreement aims to formally establish a framework for peace following a border conflict between the two nations in July. The ceremony is slated to be witnessed by both the Prime Minister of Malaysia and US President Donald Trump. Mr. Anutin confirmed he will return to Thailand immediately after the signing and will not attend the main sessions of the ASEAN Summit or the upcoming APEC Summit in South Korea. Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow will represent Thailand at the ASEAN and APEC Summits in the Prime Minister's stead.
The Prime Minister’s change in schedule follows the death of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on Friday. Mr. Anutin had originally been scheduled to attend the full ASEAN Summit, which takes place from Sunday to Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.
