Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called for a nationwide exhibition on civil aviation achievements and a comprehensive online campaign to share aviation-related information, aiming to attract young people to the rapidly growing sector. The move is part of a broader strategy to bolster Cambodia's air transport capabilities and align with long-term national development goals.

In a directive issued this week, the Prime Minister emphasized the critical role of aviation in Cambodia's future. “The civil aviation sector is considered a major strategic product of socio-economic development through national and international air transport to alleviate travelling and product transfers, accelerate trade and tourism activities, foster social connection and increase national income,” he said.
To realize this vision, he urged the SSCA and its partners to organize an exhibition displaying the sector's achievements over the years. In a direct effort to engage future talent, Samdech Borvor Thipadei also called for special events, allowing students to visit airports and witness air traffic control operations firsthand. The SSCA was further encouraged to develop a multi-faceted education campaign covering: the safety and security management protocols in aviation, the application of new technology within the industry, the sector's vital contribution to the national economy, trade, tourism, and job creation and initiatives in innovation and environmental protection.
A key objective of the campaign is to encourage young people, regardless of gender, to pursue careers in civil aviation while promoting international cooperation in air transport development. This will be supported by a dynamic online campaign designed to share information, photographs, and data on the evolution of civil aviation in Cambodia, the region, and the world.
In addition to fostering new talent, the Prime Minister also called on the SSCA to organize an award ceremony to recognize the contributions of remarkable staff in both public and private aviation companies. These initiatives are backed by the government’s newly rolled-out National Policy on Air Transport for 2025-2035, which updates and expands upon a framework in place since 1999. The updated policy aims to strengthen Cambodia's competitiveness, drive economic diversification, and expand the country's role in regional and global production chains.
Under this new policy, Cambodia has set ambitious targets. "Cambodia is expected to serve 25 million passengers through national and international transport means and to transfer 205,000 tons of products by air by 2035," said Prime minister, adding that this aviation development is crucial for realizing the country’s vision to become a high-income nation by 2050.
Cambodia celebrates International Civil Aviation Day annually to commemorate the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
