PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – October 14th, 2025. Cambodia has reached a landmark achievement in its push for sustainable mobility, with the total number of registered electric vehicles (EVs) officially surpassing the 10,000 mark.

Mr. Phon Rim, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, announced on October 14th, 2025 that as of September 2025, a total of 10,568 electric vehicles have been registered nationwide. The fleet is composed of 7,187 electric cars, 2,710 electric motorcycles, and 671 electric tricycles.

The momentum in EV adoption has accelerated dramatically in the current year. "In Cambodia, the trend of EV vehicles has increased significantly," said Mr. Phon. "In fact, in the first eight months of 2025 alone, a total of 5,571 EV vehicles were registered, including 4,251 cars, 1,153 motorcycles, and 167 tricycles." This figure represents more than half of all EVs ever registered in the country, highlighting a pivotal shift in consumer preference.

To manage and support this growing trend, the Ministry is already planning for the future. "Following the increasing trend for EV vehicles, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport is also considering adding additional markings to license plates for cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, which the project could take shape in 2026," Mr. Phon added.

This growth is a direct result of the Royal Government of Cambodia's strategic vision. The recently launched national policy on the development of the electric vehicle sector for 2024-2030 aims to transform Cambodia into a country with a high level of electric vehicle use, supporting both sustainable development and the well-being of the people.

To achieve this ambitious goal, the Royal Government has introduced powerful incentives. Importers of electric cars and motorcycles benefit from a 50% reduction in import duties. In a complementary move, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has also adjusted and reduced the tax rates on means of transport for EVs, tourist vehicles, and passenger cars to further stimulate the market and encourage the transition away from traditional combustion engines.
