PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – The Kingdom of Cambodia on November 9, 2025 marked the 72nd anniversary of its independence from France (November 9, 1953 – November 9, 2025) with a grand and solemn ceremony held in the capital, Phnom Penh, celebrating national unity and sovereignty.

The celebration was presided over by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and drew the participation of the nation’s highest politicians. Key attendees included Senate President Hun Sen, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, Prime Minister Hun Manet, along with numerous senior government officials, civil servants, and diplomatic representatives.

The official ceremony was also attended by leaders of Cambodia’s top institutions, members of the armed forces, youth, students, and the general public, underscoring the broad national significance of the day.

Independence Day, observed annually on November 9, commemorates the historic royal mission of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, revered as the Father of National Independence, who led the courageous struggle to achieve full sovereignty and territorial integrity for Cambodia in 1953.

The spirit of the day resonated across the community. Lum Sothearak, a teacher at the Institute of Banking and Technical Studies, shared his reflections on the occasion: “Today, I am honored and deeply joyful to take part in the celebration of the 72nd Independence Day... All Cambodians are proud and pay tribute to His Majesty the King Father as the great hero. Independence Day is of utmost importance, reminding us of the need for national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

The Cambodian people continue to uphold the culture of peace to ensure the well-being and harmony of society, values rooted in the noble deeds of the late King Father.
