PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) of Cambodia has announced that 5G mobile services will officially roll out in Phnom Penh and five key provinces starting in 2026. The announcement was made today by His Excellency CHEA VANDETH, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, during the Cambodia Internet Governance Forum 2025.
This strategic rollout marks a pivotal step in the Kingdom’s digital transformation. Minister Chea Vandeth confirmed that telecommunications operators have finalized clear investment plans to ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust mobile network services.
"5G is more than just an upgrade in internet speed; it will serve as the backbone of Cambodia’s digital transformation, supporting innovation and meeting the country’s evolving social and economic needs," said Minister Chea Vandeth. "The Ministry has worked closely with all operators to ensure a smooth and successful nationwide rollout."
To support this next-generation connectivity, operators have committed to substantial infrastructure investments. The Minister highlighted a three-year construction plan that includes: Rapid Expansion: The construction of 500 new antenna towers per year (per operator), Network Density: A target of reaching 2,000 new towers within three years and Seamless Integration: Ensuring uninterrupted service transitions between existing 4G and the new 5G networks.
The formal launch of Cambodia’s 5G mobile service operations was inaugurated on December 5, 2025, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Vongsey Vissoth, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers.
The introduction of 5G technology is expected to drive significant advancements across multiple sectors; such as,
1. Ultra-fast Data Speeds: Speeds up to ten times faster than 4G, enabling smoother downloads and high-quality video streaming.
2. Extremely Low Latency: Near real-time responsiveness critical for emergency services and intelligent traffic systems.
3. High-Capacity Connectivity: Support for millions of devices per square kilometer, facilitating smart cities, digital agriculture, and smart manufacturing.
4. Economic Growth: Enhanced efficiency for logistics, fintech, e-commerce, and startups, boosting the digital economy.
5. Enhanced Public Services: Faster and more effective e-Health, e-Education, and e-Government platforms.
6. National Competitiveness: Increased investment opportunities and improved standing in regional and global markets.
The MPTC has conducted extensive studies on deployment strategies and continues to collaborate with providers to ensure that 5G services meet the highest standards of quality and accessibility for the Cambodian people.
