China grieved over the casualties in the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, hoping both sides could de-escalate the tension

ASEANTOP - November 15, 2025 - The Chinese Ministry of foreign affairs issued a statement on the latest developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, expressing deep sorrow and sincere condolences for the casualties caused to the people of Cambodia and Thailand. The statement also expressed hope that both sides would exercise maximum restraint and de-escalate the situation as soon as possible.

At the Chinese ministry of foreign affairs regular press conference on December 15, a reporter asked: "Despite recent phone calls between leaders of relevant countries and the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand, urging a ceasefire between the two countries as soon as possible, the conflict on the Cambodia-Thailand border continues. What is China's comment on this? What efforts has China made to promote a ceasefire?"

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that as a friendly neighbor and friend of Cambodia and Thailand, China is highly concerned about the current situation on the Cambodia-Thailand border and deeply saddened by the casualties caused to the people of Cambodia and Thailand, and expresses sincere condolences. Cambodia and Thailand are neighbors that cannot be moved, "Good neighborliness is a treasure for a nation." The most urgent task now is to cease fire, end the conflict, and protect civilians. Considering about the safety of the people of both countries, China express the deepest grief over the lost and hope both side could de-escalate the conflict as soon as possible.
