PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — March 12, 2026Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information of Cambodia, officially announced the launch of “Phase 2 of the Anti-Fake News Campaign,” a year-long initiative running from January through December 2026. This second phase expands the scope of the project through a strategic regional partnership involving Cambodia, China, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

The implementation of Phase 2 builds upon the momentum of the highly successful “Say No to Fake News” campaign, which the Cambodian Ministry of Information leaded since April 2025. The initial phase achieved significant nationwide impact, fostering a culture of media literacy across Cambodia.

Reflecting on the success of the first phase, Pheaktra noted that the campaign garnered over 9 million views on social media and engaged more than 60,000 direct participants across Phnom Penh and all 25 provinces. Notably, the initiative has played a crucial role in safeguarding Cambodia’s youth, who represent approximately 66% of the total population, from the growing threats posed by digital misinformation.

“Based on the invaluable experience gained from our 'Say No to Fake News' campaign, we are confident that this second phase will achieve its ambitious goals,” stated the Minister. “These insights will strengthen Cambodia’s active leadership within the Mekong region as we collaborate to combat fake news, distortions, and disinformation, specifically the emerging challenge of AI-generated fake news currently circulating on social platforms.”

By leveraging regional cooperation, the 2026 campaign aims to create a unified front against digital deception, ensuring a safer and more transparent information ecosystem for all participating nations.
