"Rise for Autism" Fun Run held in old national stadium, Cambodia

ASEANTOP — PHNOM PENH, August 8th 2026 — The historic grounds of Cambodia's Old Olympic Stadium buzzed with energy, color, and solidarity as more than 1,000 participants gathered for "Rise for Autism," a fun run designed to support families navigating autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Organized by JCI Chaktomuk, youth volunteers, and special education partners, the event brought together children on the autism spectrum, parents, educators, and allies throghout the country to promote acceptance and destigmatize developmental conditions.

Unlike traditional competitive races, the event prioritized sensory comfort, inclusion, and joy. Participants completed a accessible 2-kilometer circuit around the stadium tracks. Along the route, quiet zones and sensory-friendly stations provided quiet retreats for runners who needed a break from the crowd's cheer. 

Beyond elevating public understanding for children, "Rise for Autism" placed a dedicated focus on the everyday realities faced by caregivers. Raising a child with special needs often comes with societal isolation and emotional strain. The post-run gathering featured dedicated support pavilions where parents could connect with developmental therapists, peer networks, and mental health professionals.
