AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2024 --
China has granted US$4,4 million for landmines elimination project in three provinces of Cambodia, namely Kampong Thom, Siem Reap and Preah Vihear.
H.E. Heng Ratana, Director General of Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government, stressing that the grant financial assistance was a second year of a total three-year-period project (Mar. 2023-Feb. 2026), with a total grant amount of US$13,2 million.
This 2024 project, to last from Mar. 2024 to Feb. 2025, plans to clear 3,400 hectares of landmines and UXO contamination areas, conduct survey about cluster munitions and bombs at 9,000 polygons (locations), and strengthen sub-national capacity building on mine risk education and victim assistance to around 300 village targets, the source added.
This project was expected to reach around 700,000 beneficiaries, underlined H.E. Heng Ratana.
On Mar. 26, 2024, Kratie province attained the mine-free status, in addition to the 13 other provinces (Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng, Kep, Prey Veng, Preah Sihanouk, Thbong Khmum, Kampong Cham, Svay Rieng, Kampong Chhnang, Kandal, Takeo, and Kampot), and Phnom Penh capital.
