No Mobilisation against Cambodian Royal Government as Instigated by Extremist Opposition

AKP Phnom Penh, August 18, 2024 --The general situation throughout Cambodia, including Phnom Penh capital, is normal this morning. There were neither rallies nor movements against the Royal Government as incited by the extremist opposition group.

The remarks were made by H.E. Gen. Chhum Socheat, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, adding that people were conducting their daily lives as usual, while the streets and public places were calm without noticeable incidents.

“Today's results show the renewed defeat of the extremist opposition group abroad, which has always been malicious in its attempts to overthrow the Royal Government of Cambodia by non-democratic means, which is just a daydream,” he underlined. “This also confirms that the citizens and the youths are not stupid to participate or show support with their (extremist opposition group) activities.”

Anyway, he continued, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) has always been ready to prevent and suppress any subversive activities that are intended to create unrest harming peace, stability and development of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E. Gen. Chhum Socheat also expressed his support for the authorities and the Royal Government in arresting the masterminds and instigators of any movement aimed at overthrowing the legitimate Royal Government, and requested the court to take the strictest legal action.

He called on all citizens and youths to remain calm, not to fall into any manipulation and engage in any activity that could lead to imprisonment, loss of future, separation from family, and so on.

Furthermore, he asked his compatriots to trust the Royal Government, led by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, that has been working hard in maintaining peace and stability and in developing the country in order to achieve the goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income economy by 2050.
